Subject: Quad V.34 modems - new .SDL available
From: John LaCour <jlacour@usr.com>
Date: 1996-03-08 00:01:37
Total Control Users, USR has released a new .SDL file for Quad V.34 modems which supports flash parts from additional vendors. Additionally, a software download problem which occurs under certain circumstances has been addressed. The new .SDL firmware supports Quad V.34 modems for any country. It is not intended for use with Quad V.32, Quad V.32bis, Quad V.32terbo modems, or Dual modems. All Quad V.34 modem users are encouraged to download this file and to use it as a replacement to any other Quad V.34 firmware .SDL files. Note that all Quad V.34 .SDL files have names of the form QFnnnnnn.SDL. This SDL file is being made freely available to all users as: ftp://elroy.usr.com/pub/totalcontrol/qf030200.sdl Please contact USR Customer Services on 1 800 231 8770 (+1 708 982 5010) with any questions or for additional details. Hi there, I'm looking for a USR Total Control configuration for dial-up and permanent PPP connections. So far I think I need the following: - Total Control Enterprise Network Hub/16 Chassis; - 8 Quad Anolog/Digital V.34 Modem Card Set (w/fax); - Additional power supply card; - CISCO AS5100 card (for incoming satellite link); How do I route the dial-up users to my PPP server, do I need an extra terminal server for this or do the quad modems got routing capabilities? Do I need an extra interface card to connect to my ethernet, or does one of these card come with a UTP connection? How do I connect permanent PPP connections, if I only got analogue telephone lines available? The Total Control T1Card Sets together with the quad modems might be a solution, but then I don't know where the routing has to take place (quad modem card routing?). And I don't know if they work on 4-wire analogue leased lines. The Total Control NETServer Card sets seem to be capable of doing it all; routing, PPP, RADIUS and more. If these cards can do all the PPP traffic it will save use the load on our PPP server. It seems a lot of ISP use them to provide their subscribers with dial-up access to the Internet, but how?? Any suggestions or experiences with complete configurations? Rob Poland -- Ir. R.T.J. DanaSoft has a new module for the US Robotics Total Control equipment. Currently we support the Chassis, Modem, NIC and Network Management MIBs. We are looking for someone who is using the T-1 capabilities of the USR for testing purposes. If you are using the T-1 equipment and would like to serve as a BETA site, please drop us an email. I've been working with U.S. Robitics on this but would like to know if anyone else has been seeing this. We have 32 lines running now. I have bought and installed AutoResponse for them with the main goal of using the Auto Response to time out modems after an hour of use. What we're finding happening is that during times of heavy use (when I'm not here!) somehow the modems get messed up and they wind up in a state where they ring but don't answer. I have Ring no answers setup in the AutoResponse but I find that the system doesn't seem to recognize that they are ringing, so it never uses this Auto Response String or else for some reason it just isn't getting to it, because the modems keep ringing but will not answer. Any experiences on this would be greatly appreciated. To all subscribers; The subscription process for this listserv group is open, which means that if send a subscription request to the list, you can subscribe, the listowner does not have to approve it. If you receive a message that you have been deleted from the list because of mail problems, please contact me via email before you try to re-subscribe. If you receive the notice directly from the listserv please still contact me. When there are mail delivery problems I try to send mail to you at the address that you are subscribed under. Usually the mail will never reach you as the mail address is invalid. But if for some reason it does or you get bounced without any notification, something must have caused it please contact me. If you resubscribe I will just have to bounce you again if the errors begin again until we can find out the reason for the mail problems. Hi Ray; >We use the 2511s attached by their octopus cables to attach to V.34 >Quad cards. We also have managed cards to provide a time limit. They can do an >idle time out, where if a line is idle for X number of minutes it will >disconnect but there is nothing to do an absolute timeout, a sorely lacking >capability in both the modems and the Comm Servers in my opinion. As a matter of fact I use the absolute-timeout that cisco provides with the 2511 Access Server for our "15 min EXPRESS" and "4 hour max connect" configurations. I don't know that it's documented anywhere. i.e. conf t line 1 16 absolute-timeout 240 Try it!! You'll like it! Subject: Static routes on NetServer
From: Johnny Noam <johnny@gold.net.il>
Date: 1996-03-29 00:00:56
-- [ From: Johnny Noam * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- Hi Everybody, I just now found out about this mailing list, I hope its active since I have a dozen or so USR total control chassies, and I need people who know the product, since I encounter a few problems with them. I have a location with 3 chassies, and I use them to connect both PPP customers and slip LAN customers. The LAN customers have a full class C and they use a unix machine with dip to call in. The username and password give them a dedicated IP which is the 254 of their own network and I have a static route like: Destination Gateway Flag Met Interface --------------------- -------------------- ---- --- --------- 192.115.172.0 192.115.172.254 NS 1 Unknown The terminal server is configured to broadcast ans listen, using RIP, and I have a router that listens for these RIPs and distributes them on EIGRP. the problem is that sometimes the static does not go up, and I have only 192.115.172.254 192.115.172.254 HL 1 ptp14 if I re-save the IP routes table from the Netserver management console (without actually adding it again), the route goes up. If I do an "add route" from the netserver telnet screen, the route goes up. Any ideas? -- =================================================== Johnny Noam Euronet - Internet Gold Park Siebel, Rosh Haayn tel: 972-3-9020000 fax: 972-3-9024222
