Netopia firmware filenames encode the platform, version, and variant:

Before upgrading, confirm with your service provider that the newer firmware version is supported on their network. Save a written copy of your configuration or a configuration file backup before upgrading.
Requires internet access and a valid, routable WAN IP address on the router. If your ISP uses non-routable WAN IPs (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x–172.31.x.x), use the Xmodem method instead.

Requires a serial console cable (DB-9 to DB-9) and a terminal emulator (HyperTerminal, ZTerm, etc.). Download the firmware .bin file to the computer you will connect from.

Under no circumstances should you interrupt the firmware upgrade process. Every firmware release includes changes that may cause configuration corruption, requiring a factory reset. As a precaution, always save a backup of your configuration before upgrading.
