Understanding Security Domains

You use security domains to group together devices that you want to have the same passwords and access features. Each security domain consists of a set of member devices, and a set of attributes that apply to those devices.

In the Security Manager window, security domains are listed at the top level of the hierarchy in the navigation pane. The first security domain in the navigation pane is the default security domain. The default domain contains as members all of the devices on the Optivity Switch Manager topology map.

Below the default domain, the hierarchy shows all of the non-default security domains. Each non-default security domain contains the elements described in the following table:


Element Icon Description
Property table
 
Lets you view and edit properties for a security domain. For more information, see Setting security domain properties and Property table.
Members folder

Lets you view information about the devices that are members of a security domain. For more information, see Working with security domains and Members folder.
Attributes folder

Lets you view and edit settings for the attributes of a security domain. For more information, see Managing security domain attributes and Attributes folder.
Auditor folder

Lets you view information about devices that have settings that do not match the settings of the security domain. For more information, see Viewing non-conforming devices and Auditor folder.
Monitor folder

Lets you view statistics for the devices in a security domain. For more information, see Viewing security statistics and Monitor folder.
