Creating a protocol-based VLAN

To create a protocol-based VLAN:

  1. In the navigation pane, select an STG.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Type the VLAN ID.
  4. The value can be from 1 to 4094, as long as it is not already in use. (The default VLAN has a VLAN ID of 1.)
  5. Type the VLAN name (optional).
  6. If no name is entered, a default is created.
  7. For a Passport 8600 switch, select the QoS Level (optional)
  8. For a Passport 8600 switch, type the Differentiated Services (DS) Field (optional).
  9. For a Passport 1000 Series switch, specify if the VLAN traffic will be tagged as High Priority (optional).
  10. In the Type box, select byProtocolId.
  11. Other items in the dialog box that apply to protocol-based VLANs are activated.
  12. In the ProtocolId box, select the protocol.
  13. If you select UsrDefined, refer to User-defined protocols in a protocol-based VLAN for more information.
  14. Select the device to be configured on the VLAN by doing one of the following:
  15. Click Ok.
  16. In the Ports table, specify the port membership by clicking on one or all of the following columns and specifying ports:
