The DiffServ core port honors all the previous mapping done at the access port and places the packet in the correct QoS queue based on its markings. All classifying and marking of packets happens at the access port. A packet leaves an access port with a DSCP or IEEE 802.1p bit that maps to a QoS level. At the core port, the packet is simply assigned to the appropriate QoS queue based on its DSCP-to-QoS level mapping or its Tag-to-Qos level mapping.
