The Trap Receivers tab in the Chassis dialog box lists the machines that receive SNMP traps from the Passport chassis. When Device Manager opens a device, it automatically adds the machine on which it is running to the Trap Receivers list.
Note:
If the Trap Receivers window takes a long time to open, the IP address of a trap receiver may not be able to resolve to a DNS name. By default, Device Manager attempts to resolve IP addresses to DNS names. If no Domain Name Server (DNS) is available, set Device > Properties > Display Hostnames as to IP addresses to avoid long delays caused by the failed DNS resolution attempts.

The table below describes the Trap Receivers tab items.
IpAddress
IP address for the trap receiver. (Device Manager may display this value as a DNS host name, but it was entered originally as an IP address.)
Community
Community string used for trap messages to this trap receiver.
Version
By default, traps are sent in SNMP V2c format. If you are using an older NMS that supports only V1 traps (for example, HP OpenView) you should select that field. Note that UNIX management stations must run Device Manager as Root to receive traps.
You can specify a directed broadcast address as an SNMP trap receiver. When you have multiple network management stations with a single subnet, the software sends SNMP trap messages to all network management stations with a single SNMP trap receiver entry using the subnet broadcast as the trap receiver address. With this feature, you do not have to specify each network management station on a subnet as a trap receiver.
Once you insert a destination address of a trap, it can be a broadcast address.
