Using proxy ARP
Proxy ARP enables the Passport switch to respond to an ARP request from a locally attached host or end station for a remote destination. It does so by sending an ARP response back to the local host with its own MAC address of the router interface for the subnet on which the ARP request was received. The reply is generated only if the switch has an active route to the destination network.
To configure proxy ARP:
- From the Device Manager window menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
- In the VLAN dialog box, select a VLAN.
- Click IP.
The IP, VLAN dialog box opens with the IP Address tab displayed.
- Click the ARP tab.
- Select enable in the IP, VLAN, ARP tab, DoProxy field.
- Click Apply.
Proxy ARP is enabled for the VLAN.
