Setting the Device Manager properties

The Device Manager Properties window allows you to configure important communication parameters such as the polling interval, timeout, and retry count. You can set these parameters before you open a device to manage. You can also access the Properties window at any other time while Device Manager is running.

To set Device Manager properties:

  1. From the initial Device Manager window menu bar, choose Device > Properties.
  2. The Device Manager Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Type information, or click the check boxes.
  4. Click OK.

The table below describes the items in the Properties dialog box.


Item Range Description
Polling


Status Interval

Type the interval, in seconds, at which statistics and status information are gathered.
The default status interval is 20 seconds.
If Traps, Status Interval
?
Type the interval, in seconds, at which statistics and status information are gathered when traps are enabled.
The default If Traps, Status interval is 60 seconds.
Hotswap Detect every
?
Type the interval cycle at which Device Manager polls for module information.
The hot-swap detect default interval is 1.
Enable
Enable/Disable
Choose to enable (check) or disable (not checked) periodic polling of the device for updated status. If polling is disabled, the switch or stack status is updated only when you click Refresh in the chassis window.
The periodic polling default setting is Enabled.
SNMP


Retry Count
0..5
Type the number of times Device Manager should retransmit polling information.
The default retry count setting is one retry.
Timeout
3..30
Type the length of time, in seconds, of each retry of each polling waiting period.
The default timeout interval is 5 seconds.
Trace

Choose to enables (check) or disables (not checked) SNMP tracing. When Trace is selected, SNMP protocol data units (PDUs) are displayed in the Device > Log dialog box.
The default trace setting is not checked.
Register for Traps

Choose whether (check) or not (not checked) Device Manager should automatically register to receive traps when Device Manager is launched against a switch.
The default register traps setting is checked.
Max Traps in Log
1..10000
Type the number of traps that can exist in the trap log.
The default number of traps in a log is 500.
Trap Port
default
The UDP port that Device Manager listens on to receive SNMP traps.
Confirm row deletion

Choose whether (check) or not (not checked) a confirmation dialog box is displayed when you delete a row from a Device Manager table.
The default setting is not checked.
