Viewing Trap Logs

Switches can be configured to send out SNMP generic traps. If Device Manager is running and configured properly, any traps received are recorded in the Trap Log.

Configuring Management Stations.

Management stations can be configured to be trap receivers.

To configure a management station:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose Edit > chassis > Trap Receivers > Insert.

    The Insert Trap Receivers window opens.

  2. Type the IP Address of your management station.

  3. Click Insert.

Note: For UNIX management stations you must be logged on as Root user. Also when running multiple sessions of Device Manager on a management station, only the first session can view trap logs.

Viewing Trap Logs

To view the Trap Logs:

The Trap Log window opens.

The following table describes the fields of the Trap Log window.


Field
Description
Time
A date and time stamp of when the trap was captured. The date and time are based on the internal clock of the router switch, and not the management station.
Src
The IP address of the trap sender.
Type
Displays the type of trap sent.
Description
Describes the trap.
