Creating and viewing IGMP Static Entries

Some sources do not join a multicast group before transmitting a multicast stream. When this is the case and if there are no other group members joined in the VLAN, the data is flooded to all port members of the VLAN. You can create a static entry to forward multicast data streams to a particular set of ports within the VLAN. When the entry is created, multicast data streams are always forwarded to the multicast router within the VLAN in addition to the ports configured for this static entry.

Note Note: IGMP Snoop can guarantee delivery only of local multicast data, but it does not guarantee delivery of remote multicast data. You cannot configure a port as a static receiver in an IGMP Snoop enabled VLAN that does not contain at least one dynamic receiver port and have multicast data forwarded.

To add members to the IGMP Snoop group:

  1. From the Snoop tab, click Multicast > Static > Insert.
  2. The Insert Static tab opens.
  3. Enter the appriopriate data and click insert.

  4. Field Description
    IpAddress
Enter the Multicast group address of the multicast stream.
    MemberPorts
The ports to which you want to redirect the multicast stream for this multicast group. The ports must be member ports of the VLAN.
    NotAllowedToJoin
The ports that will not receive the multicast stream for this multicast group.
    ...
    (Ellipsis)

REVIEWERS: NO LONGER TRUE - Should it be? In the current JDM build the user does not have this option. They must manually type in Multicast addresses.
This button in the Insert Static window represents a pull-down menu that specifies the IP multicast addresses that map to the IP multicast MAC address entered in the field to the left. Because an IP multicast MAC address maps to 32 IP multicast addresses, the list displays the other 31 IP multicast addresses that map to the same MAC address. Therefore, if and only if there are multicast streams for any of these 31 IP multicast addresses, these streams are also forwarded out to the same ports configured in this static entry.
Also, within the indicated valid range (224.0.1.0 to 239.255.255.255), the following are invalid addresses: 244.0.0.x and the corresponding 31 multicast addresses that map to the IP MAC addresses. If you try to select them, you will receive an invalid message.

You can create a static entry with one port so that if there is at least one receiver in the VLAN, multicast data will be forwarded to that receiver. If there are no receivers in the VLAN and no port was entered in the static entry, the multicast data will be dropped. Subsequently, when a Querier is learned or configured, the multicast data for this static entry will be forwarded to that receiver.

You cannot create static entries if IGMP snooping is disabled.
