Creating a Port-Based VLAN

To create a port-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.

The VLANs dialog box opens with the Basic tab active.

  1. Click Insert.
  2. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens with the byPort radio buton selected.
  3. Type the VLAN ID.

The value can be from 1 to 4094, as long as it is not already in use. (The default VLAN has a VLAN ID of 1.)

  1. Type the VLAN name (optional).

If no name is entered, a default is created.

  1. Select the color (optional).

Device Manager suggests a color, but you can change it.

  1. Type or Select the Spanning Tree Group ID of the VLAN.
  2. In the Type field, select byPort.
  3. Type or specify the ports of the VLAN.
  4. Specify if the VLAN traffic will be tagged as High Priority by checking the HighPriority box.
  5. Click Insert.

In the edit VLANs Basic window, highlight the newly created VLAN and do one of the following:

· For IP protocol VLANs, choose IP > Insert to bring up the Insert IP Address window. Type an IP address and the NetMask for routing, and click Insert.

· For IPX protocol VLANs, choose IPX > Insert to bring up the IPX Insert Address window. Type the IPX network address and select the preferred encapsulation method (Ethernet II, SNAP, LLC, or RAW). Then click Insert.
