Enabling IGMP snooping on a VLAN
For each VLAN, you need to enable:
- IGMP snooping using IP Routing > IGMP > Snoop Globals
- IGMP control information using IP Routing > IGMP > Snoop Control
There are two different levels of control for IGMP snooping. The first one applies globally and if you disable it, IGMP snooping is disabled for the entire switch. This occurs regardless of whether or not, you enable the second level. The second level applies to just one VLAN and involves enabling both the IGMP snooping and the IGMP control information fields to ensure that the IGMP snooping function for the VLAN is enabled.
- To access the Globals tab and enable IGMP snooping:
- From the Device Manager menu bar, choose IP Routing > IGMP.
| The IGMP dialog box opens with the Snoop Globals tab displayed. |
| The table that follows describes the fields in the IGMP Snoop Globals tab. |
.
IGMPSnooping
|
Indicates whether or not the Layer 2 IGMP snoop function is enabled or disabled. When IGMP snoop is enabled, the switch learns multicast group membership from IGMP reports received by hosts attached to it.
|
MulticastRouterOnly
|
Indicates the status of multicasting. When it is enabled, the 1600 Series switch forwards multicast traffic to multicast routers only. When it is disabled, the 1600 Series switch forwards multicast traffic to any IP router.
