Configuring OSPF in a default area

To configure OSPF in a default area 0:

  1. Enable OSPF globally.
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select Edit > Chassis > Protocol Control.
    2. The Chassis dialog box opens with the Protocol Control tab displayed.
    3. Set OSPFState to enable.
    4. Click Apply.
  2. Add VLAN 2
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select VLAN > VLANs > Insert.
    2. The VLAN dialog box opens.
    3. From the VLAN dialog box, click Insert
    4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
    5. In the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box, enter the VLAN Id and Name.
    6. Click the PortMembers tab, and select Port Members for the VLAN.
    7. Click the UntaggedPorts tab, and select Untagged Ports for the VLAN.
    8. Click Insert.
  3. Assign an IP address to VLAN 2
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select IP Routing > IP > Interfaces.
    2. The IP dialog box opens with the Interfaces tab displayed.
    3. From the IP dialog box, click Insert
    4. The IP, Insert Interfaces dialog box opens.
    5. Select a Vlan Name.
    6. Click Insert.
  4. Add VLAN 3
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select VLAN > VLANs > Insert.
    2. The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
    3. In the VLAN dialog box, click Insert
    4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
    5. In the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box, enter values for Id, Name, PortMembers, and UntaggedPorts.
    6. Click Insert.
  5. Assign an IP address to VLAN 3.
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select IP Routing > IP > Interfaces.
    2. The IP dialog box opens with the Interfaces tab displayed.
    3. From the IP dialog box, click Insert
    4. The IP, Insert Interfaces dialog box opens.
    5. Select a Vlan Name.
    6. Click Insert.
  6. Set the OSPF Router ID.
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select IP Routing > OSPF > General.
    2. The OSPF dialog box opens with the General tab displayed.
    3. Enter a Router Id.
    4. Click Apply
  7. Enable OSPF on VLAN 2 and VLAN 3.
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select IP Routing > OSPF > Interfaces.
    2. The OSPF dialog box opens with the Interfaces tab displayed.
    3. In the AdminStat field, for each VLAN, select enable.
    4. Click Apply
  8. Set the Router Priority to 0.
  9. Setting the Router Priority to 0 insures that this device never becomes a DR or BDR.
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select IP Routing > OSPF > Interfaces.
    2. The OSPF dialog box opens with the Interfaces tab displayed.
    3. Set the RtrPriority field to 0.
    4. Click Apply
  10. Save the configuration.
    1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select Actions > Save Config.
    2. The Save config menu item is displayed.
