Creating an MLT flooding port

The Passport 1600 Series switch supports up to 7 MLT groups with up to 4 ports per group. Each MLT group has a flooding port which is used to flood packets with unknown MAC destinations.

This example shows you how to create MLT group 1 with ports 1/27 and 1/28.

The figure that follows shows MLT group 1 containing ports 27 and 28 with port 27 as the flooding port.

To create MLT group 1:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > MLT.
  2. The MLT dialog box opens with the Multi Link Trunks tab displayed.
  3. In the Multi Link Trunks tab, click Insert.
  4. The MLT, Insert MultiLink Trunks dialog box opens.
  5. Enter index number 1.
  6. Specify the master port by clicking the MasterPort ellipsis button.
  7. The swL2TrunkMasterPort dialog box opens.
  8. Select the trunk master port 27.
  9. This port will appear depressed.
  10. Specify the member ports by clicking the Member ellipsis button.
  11. The swL2TrunkMember dialog box opens.
  12. Select trunk member ports 1/27 and 1/28.
  13. These ports will appear depressed.
  14. Set the State to enabled.
  15. On the MLT, Insert Multi Link Trunks dialog box, click Insert.
  16. Click Close to return to the main Device Manager window.
