Configuring port mirroring
The port mirroring feature allows you to direct traffic from a range of ports to a designated port where a network sniffer or other device can monitor the network traffic. In addition, you can specify that only the traffic received by the port, transmitted by the port, or both is mirrored to the designated (target) port. The target port is the port where information is duplicated and sent for capture and network analysis. You must connect a network analyzer to the target port in order to capture packets that are duplicated from the source port.
The port mirroring table can hold up to 25 entries.
|
Note:
If you mirror a faster port (for example, a Gigabit Ethernet port) to a slower port (for example, a 10/100 Mb/s Fast Ethernet port), many packets will be dropped.
|
To configure port mirroring:
- From the Device Manager menu bar, choose Edit > Diagnostics.
| The Diagnostics dialog box opens with the Port Mirror tab displayed. |
- In the State field, select enabled.
- Click the ellipses button adjacent to the TargetPort field, and select a target port.
- Click the ellipses button adjacent to the SourceIngress field, and select the source ingress ports for your configuration.
Source ports are the ports that are mirrored. Packets ingressing these Source ports are duplicated and forwarded to the Target port.
|
Note:
The Target port cannot be one of the Source Ingress ports.
|
|
- Click the ellipses button adjacent to the SourceEgress field, and select the egress ports for your configuration.
Source ports are the ports that are mirrored. Packets egressing these Source ports are duplicated and forwarded to the Target port.
|
Note:
The Target port cannot be one of the Source Egress ports.
|
|
- In the Diagnostics dialog box--Port Mirror tab, click Apply.
| Your port mirroring configuration is complete. |
