Creating a source address MAC-based VLAN

To create a source address MAC-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
  2. The VLAN dialog box opens.
  3. Click Insert.
  4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens. This dialog box opens with the Type field set to byPort.
  5. Change the Type field to bySrcMac.
  6. The dialog box changes to display fields needed to set up source MAC-based VLANs.
  7. Enter the unique VLAN ID.
  8. Enter the VLAN name (optional).
  9. If no name is entered, a default name is created.
  10. Enter a color ID for the VLAN (optional).
  11. Use the StgId menu to choose the Spanning Tree group to which the VLAN is to belong.
  12. In the Type field, click bySrcMac if not already selected.
  13. In the ConstraintType field, click independent or shared..

    Note Note: In independent VLAN (IVL) mode, each VLAN uses an unique forwarding database. In shared VLAN (SVL) mode, multiple VLANs use a single forwarding database. IVL is not supported in Hybrid Stack Operational mode.
    The hybrid stack mode is not supported in this release of the BayStack 460-24T-PWR switch.

  14. Click Insert.
  15. The system returns you to the VLAN Basic tab.
  16. Double-click on the Port Member field.
  17. The Port Members dialog box opens.
  18. Click the ports you want in the VLAN..

    Note Note: You can add ports that are also members of other VLANs within the same STG. However, you cannot add ports that are members of a VLAN that is within a different STG.

  19. Click Ok.
  20. The system returns you to the VLAN Basic tab.
  21. Highlight the BySrcMac field under Type.
  22. Click MAC button on the bottom.
  23. The MAC, VLAN dialog box opens.
  24. Click Insert.
  25. The Insert VLAN MAC dialog box opens.
    When you click File on the MAC, VLAN dialog box, a box opens that allows you to use text files to edit your MAC-based VLAN memebership to ensure consistent membership across devices.
  26. Type the source MAC address for the VLAN.
  27. Click Insert.

  28. Note Note: In a source MAC-based VLAN, a potential member becomes an active member of the VLAN when a frame with the specified source MAC address is received. Source MAC-based VLANs are not supported in a mixed, or hybrid, stack.
    Hybrid stacking is not supported in this release of the BayStack 460-24T-PWR switch.
