Assigning an IP address to a VLAN

To specify an IP address for a virtual routing port:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, select IP Routing > IP.
    2. The IP dialog box opens with the Globals tab displayed.
  2. Click forwarding to enable routing on the device.
  3. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
    4. The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
  4. Select a VLAN.
  5. Click IP.
    6. The IP, VLAN dialog box opens with the IP Address tab displayed.
  6. Click Insert.
    7. The IP, VLAN, Insert IP Address dialog box opens.
  7. Type the IP address and netmask.
  8. Click Insert.

    Note Note: You can assign only one IP address to any router interface (brouter or VLAN). Attempting to assign a second IP address returns an invalid IP address error.

    You cannot assign an IP address to a VLAN if a brouter port is a member of the VLAN. To assign an IP address to the VLAN, you must first remove the brouter port member.
