Virtual Interface tab

You can insert a virtual interface and view information describing a virtual interface from the viewpoint of OSPF using the Virtual Interface tab.

To insert a virtual interface or view virtual interface information:

  1. From the Device Manager window menu bar, choose IP Routing > OSPF.
  2. The OSPF dialog box opens with the General tab displayed.
  3. Click the Virtual Interface tab.
  4. The Virtual Interface tab opens.
  5. Click Insert.
  6. The OSPF, Insert Virtual If dialog box opens.
  7. Specify the area ID of the transit area.
  8. The transit area is the common area between two ABRs.
  9. Specify the neighbor ID.
  10. The neighbor ID is the IP router ID of the ABR that the other ABR needs to go through to get to the backbone.
  11. Click Insert.
  12. To verify that the virtual link is active, refresh the Virtual If tab and check the state column.
  13. If the state displays "point to point," the virtual link is active. If the state column displays "down," the virtual link is configured incorrectly.
