IP, Insert Route dialog box and Routes fields


Field Description
Dest
Shows the destination network address.
Mask
Shows the destination mask.
NextHop
Displays the next hop IP address.
When creating a black hole static route, set this field to 255.255.255.255.
HopOrMetric
This field is the primary routing metric for this route. The semantics of this metric are determined by the routing-protocol specified in the route's Proto field.
Interface
The ifIndex value which identifies the local interface through which the next hop of this route should be reached.
Proto
This field is the routing protocol through which this route was learned. This can be one of the following:
  • local - a local interface.
  • netmgmt - a static route.
  • icmp - the result of an ICMP redirection.
  • egp - an Exterior Gateway Protocol.
  • ggp - a Gateway-Gateway Protocol.
  • hello - a FuzzBall HelloSpeak.
  • rip - Berkeley RIP or RIP-II.
  • isIs - Dual IS-IS.
  • esIs - ISO 9542.
  • ciscoIgrp- Cisco IGRP.
  • bbnSpfIgp - BBN SPF IGP.
  • ospf - Open Shortest Path First.
  • bgp - Border Gateway Protocol.
  • idpr - InterDomain Policy Routing.
  • ciscoEigrp - Cisco EIGRP.
Age
This field is the number of seconds since this route was last updated or determined to be correct.
Type
This field displays the routing type.
  • reject - a route which discards traffic.
  • local - a route created from a local interface.
  • remote - a route created from a remote destination.
