Configuring a source MAC address-based VLAN

Before configuring a source MAC address-based VLAN, you must first enable source MAC address-based VLANs on the system. If you have not already done so, use the following procedure:

"Enabling source MAC address-based VLANs on the system".

To configure a source MAC-address-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
  2. The VLAN dialog box opens to the Basic tab .
  3. Click Insert.
  4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
  5. In the Type field, click bySrcMac.
  6. The fields needed to set up source MAC-based VLANs become editable.
  7. In the ID field, type the unique VLAN ID.
  8. (Optional) In the Name field, type the VLAN name, or use the one provided.
  9. (Optional) In the Color Identifier field, select a color, or use the one provided.
  10. This color is used by VLAN Manager to visually distinguish the VLANs in a network.
  11. In the StgId field, click the down arrow, and select a spanning tree group ID for the VLAN.
  12. To specify the VLAN port membership, click the ellipsis (...) for one of the following fields.
  13. Click each port until the desired color is achieved.
  14. Click OK.
  15. The VlanPortMembers dialog box closes, and the selected port members appear in the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box.
  16. In the Aging Time field, specify the timeout period in seconds for aging out the dynamic member ports of the VLAN, or use the default of 600 seconds.
  17. (Optional) In the QosLevel field, click a quality of service level, or use the default, level 1.
  18. In the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box, click Insert.
  19. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box closes, and the VLAN appears in the Basic tab.
  20. In the VLAN Basic tab, select the newly created VLAN.
  21. The VLAN is highlighted.
  22. Click Mac.
  23. The MAC, VLAN dialog box opens.
  24. Click Insert.
  25. The Insert VLAN MAC dialog box opens.
  26. In the MacAddr field, type a source MAC address for the Vlan.
  27. Click Insert.
  28. The Insert VLAN MAC dialog box closes and the MAC address appears in the MAC, VLAN dialog box.
  29. Click Close > Close.
  30. The MAC, VLAN and VLAN dialog boxes close, and the Source MAC address-based VLAN is configured.

    Note Note: In a source MAC-based VLAN, a potential member becomes an active member of the VLAN when a frame with the specified source MAC address is received.
