To create a protocol-based VLAN:
The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basis tab displayed.
The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
The dialog box activates additional fields needed to set up protocol-based VLANs.
If no name is entered, a default is created.
Device Manager suggests a color, but you can change it. This color is used to display the different VLANs in a network.
The VlanPortMembers dialog box opens.
When you have two VLANs with potential members and you want to move ports from one VLAN to the other, you must change the port membership of any ports you want to move to never. Then you can assign the ports to the other VLAN. This requirement applies to both the 8000 modules and 8100 modules.
If you are entering a UserDefined protocol, see the explanation under "Configuring user-defined protocols in protocol-based VLANs."
This option is relevant only to the 8000 modules.
Click IP. The IP, Vlan dialog box opens. In the IP, Vlan dialog box, click Insert. The IP, Vlan Insert Ip Address dialog box opens. Type an IP address and the NetMask for routing. Click Insert.
Click IPX. The IPX VLAN dialog box opens. Click Insert. The IPX VLAN Insert Addresses dialog box opens. Type the IPX network address and select the preferred encapsulation method (Ethernet II, SNAP, LLC, or RAW). Click Insert.
