Performing an external loopback test

An external loopback test uses a loopback connector connected to the port to loop data back to the same port.


Note Note: For information about performing F5 loopback testing, see Using the Passport 8672ATME Module.


Note Note: You must supply the loopback connector.

To perform an external loopback test on a port:

  1. Plug in an external loopback connector.
  2. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose Edit >Port.
  3. The Port dialog box opens with the Interface tab.

  4. Set AutoNegotiate to false.
  5. Set Admin Duplex to full.
  6. Click the Test tab.
  7. The Test tab opens.
  8. Click Ext. Loopback.
  9. Let the test run for several seconds.
  10. Click Stop to stop the test.
  11. The result, Fail or Success, is shown along with packet counts.
