Spanning tree groups

For the purposes of Spanning Tree Protocol negotiation, the ports on a Passport 8000 Series switch can be divided into groups of ports where each group of ports performs its own spanning tree negotiation with neighboring devices. In the Passport 8000 Series switches, these groups of ports are called spanning tree groups (STGs).

The Passport 8100 modules support one STG.

The Passport 8600 modules support 25 STGs.
