Specifying autonomous system boundary routers

Autonomous system boundary routers (ASBRs) advertise non-OSPF routes into OSPF domains so that they are passed along throughout the OSPF routing domain. A router can function as an ASBR if one or more of its interfaces is connected to a non-OSPF network (for example, RIP, BGP, or EGP).

To configure a router as an ASBR:

  1. From the Device Manager window menu bar, choose IP Routing > OSPF.
  2. The OSPF dialog box opens with the General tab displayed.
  3. In the General tab, select the ASBdrRtrStatus option to designate the router as an ASBR.
  4. The default is set to disabled.
  5. Click Apply.

Note Note: To conserve resources, you may want to limit the number of ASBRs in your network or to specifically control which routers perform as ASBRs to control traffic flow.
