Opening a device
"Opening" a device displays the device view, a picture of the device. Before you can display the device view, you must enter community strings that determine the access level granted to the device.
To open a device:
- From the abbreviated Device Manager window menu bar, choose Device > Open. Or from the Device Manager toolbar, click the open device button.

- Identify the device by typing the DNS name or IP address of the device in the Device Name field.
- Type the proper community strings in the Read Community and Write Community fields.

Note:
SNMPv3 is not supported in release 2.0.1 of the Optical Ethernet Layer 2 MPLS VPNs software.

- Click Ping to check if the switch is reachable, or Telnet to initiate a Telnet session.
- Click Open.

Note:
To gain read/write/all access to a device in Device Manager, you must enter the read/write/all community string for both the Read Community and Write Community strings.
