Configuring MPLS on an interface

Note: Before you can change the parameters for a specific interface, you must disable that interface.

The OM8000 interfaces operate in the following modes:

• Label Advertise Mode - This mode determines when the interface distributes label mappings to the next hop upstream. The OM8000 switch automatically sets the mode according to the label protocol you configure on the interface.

­	If you configure LDP or Both, the label advertise mode is set to downstream unsolicited, which means the interface distributes labels immediately after the label is bound to a FEC (forward equivalence class).

­	If you configure RSVP only, the label advertise mode is set to downstream on demand, which means the interface distributes labels only when it receives a request.

• Label Retention Mode - This mode specifies whether or not the interface retains label bindings that it receives from LSRs. This parameter is set to liberal, which means the interface retains all advertised label mappings whether they are from a valid next hop or not. This mode facilitates quicker adaptation to routing changes.
  

To configure MPLS on an interface, use the following steps:

1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose IP Routing > MPLS > Config.

The MPLS dialog box opens with the Globals tab displayed.

2. Click the Interfaces tab.

The Interfaces tab opens and displays any previously configured MPLS interfaces.

3. Modify an existing configuration by double clicking any field and selecting an alternative value from the drop-down menu.
4. Click Insert to configure a new MPLS interface.

The MPLS, Insert Interfaces dialog box opens.

5. In the Lay3Addr field, enter the IP address for this interface.
6. In the Lay3Mask field, enter the mask for this interface.
7. Click PenultimatePopRequest if you want to disable this feature.
8. Select the label protocol: LDP, RSVP or both. The default is LDP.
9. Click Insert.
10. Click Apply.
