Creating a source MAC address-based VLAN

Enable the source MAC-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose Edit > Chassis.
    2. The Chassis dialog box opens with the System tab displayed.
  2. Click the Chassis tab.
    3. The Chassis tab opens.
  3. Disable GlobalFilterEnable.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Enable VlanBySrcMacEnable.
  6. Click Apply.

To create a source MAC-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
    2. The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
  2. Click Insert.
    3. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
  3. Change the Type field to bySrcMac.
    4. The dialog box activates additional fields needed to set up source MAC-based VLANs.
  4. In the ID field, type the unique VLAN ID.
  5. In the Name field, type the VLAN name (optional).
    6. If no name is entered, a default is created.
  6. In the Color Identifier field, select the color (optional).
    7. Device Manager suggests a color, but you can change it.This color is used by VLAN Manager to display the different VLANs in a network.
  7. In the StgId field, select the spanning tree group ID of the VLAN.
  8. Change the Type field to bySrcMac.
  9. Specify the port membership by clicking the PortMembers, StaticMembers, or NotAllowedToJoin ellipsis button. For protocol types: byIpSubnet, byProtocolid, and bySrcMac use the PortMember ellipsis button.
    10. The VlanPortMembers dialog box opens.
  10. In the VlanPortMembers dialog boxclick each port button until the color representing the desired membership color is visible.
  11. Click OK. The VLAN, Insert Basci dialog box opens.
  12. Specify the Aging Time (the timeout period in seconds for aging out the dynamic member ports of the VLAN) or use the default of 600 seconds.
  13. Select the QosLevel (optional).
  14. In the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box, click Insert.
  15. In the VLAN dialog box, highlight the newly created VLAN.
  16. Click Mac.
  17. Click Insert.
    18. The Mac, VLAN dialog box opens.
  18. In the MAC, VLAN dialog box, click Insert.
    19. The MAC, VLAN dialog box opens.
  19. Type the source MAC address for the VLAN, and click Insert.

    Note Note: In a source MAC-based VLAN, a potential member becomes an active member of the VLAN when a frame with the specified source MAC address is received.
