Creating a port-based VLAN

To create a port-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
  2. The VLANs dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
  3. Click Insert.
  4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
  5. In the ID field, type the VLAN ID.
  6. Assign a value from 1 to 4094, as long as it is not already in use. (The default VLAN has a VLAN ID of 1.)
  7. In the Name field, type the VLAN name (optional).
  8. If no name is entered, a default is created.
  9. In the Color Identifier field, select the color (optional).
  10. Device Manager suggests a color, but you can change it. This color is used to display the different VLANs in a network.
  11. In the StgId field, type or select the spanning tree group ID of the VLAN.
  12. In the Type field, select byPort.
  13. Specify the port membership by clicking the PortMembers ellipsis button.
  14. The VlanPortMembers dialog box opens.
For port-based VLANs, you specify whether ports are always members by selecting the member ports. These ports display depressed, while the nonselected ports display not depressed. Port numbers that display in gray indicate ports that cannot be selected to belong to the VLAN. (For example, you cannot select ports that do not have the same spanning tree group ID as that of the new VLAN.)
  15. On the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box, click Insert.
  16. If you are using an 8100 module, on the VLAN Basic tab, highlight the newly created VLAN and do one of the following:
