Uncompress the file using gzip -dc command which will not change the original .tar.gz file, or using gzip -d command to replace the original .tar.gz file with .tar file. (e.g., %% gzip -dc jdm_5500.tar.gz > jdm_5500.tar) (e.g., %% gzip -d jdm_5500.tar.gz) 3. Untar the file (e.g., %% tar xvf jdm_5500.tar) 4. Change directory into the software directory (e.g., %% cd jdm_5500) 5. Execute the "JDM" script file to start the Java Device Manager(JDM). If JDM does not start properly, verify the Java Runtime Environment v1.3.0 is installed correctly. Also, verify the $PATH and $JAVA_HOME environment variables are set properly. For detailed descriptions of commands and installation instructions, please refer to the Device Manager documentation available on the Nortel Networks support World Wide Web site http://www.nortelnetworks.com/servsup and the hard copy documentation. We strongly recommend reading release notes to find out about the new features and known caveats in each software release. ********************************************************************** Contact Information: Nortel Networks Technical Solutions Center Telephone Fax Number Billerica, MA 800-2LANWAN 978-916-3514 Santa Clara, CA 800-2LANWAN 408-495-1188 Valbonne, France 33-4-92-96-69-68 33-4-92-96-69-98 Sydney, Australia 61-2-9927-8800 61-2-9927-8811 Tokyo, Japan 81-3-5402-0180 81-3-5402-0173 **********************************************************************
