IP multicasting

IP multicasting provides services such as the delivery of information to multiple destinations with a single transmission and the solicitation of servers by clients. These services benefit applications such as video conferencing, dissemination of datagram information, and dissemination of mail or news to a large number of recipients.

Caution: IP Multicast with IGMP and DVMRP is not supported on this platform.

The Passport switch recognizes two protocols for IP multicasting:

1. Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP)

2. Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)

The following sections describe how to use Device Manager to set up IP Multicast features:

Device Manager allows you to view and modify Multicast parameters through the following management dialog boxes:

• DVMRP dialog box
• IGMP dialog box
• Multicast dialog box
