You can use port mirroring for troubleshooting and network traffic analysis. Use port mirroring to specify a destination port on which you want to see mirrored traffic and specify the source ports from which traffic is mirrored. Any packets entering or leaving the specified ports are forwarded normally and a copy of the packets is sent out the mirror port. On a Passport switch, up to 10 ports can be set as mirrored ports and one port can be set as a mirroring port. When this feature is active, all packets received on the port(s) specified by the MirroredPort field are copied to MirroringPort. The mirroring operation is nonintrusive.
You can also use the port mirroring feature to monitor traffic from MAC addresses where traffic with a given source MAC address is copied to the mirror port. This feature is enabled by setting the monitor field to true for a MAC address in the Forwarding dialog box.
To configure port mirroring:
| The Diagnostics dialog box opens with the Test tab displayed. |
| The Port Mirrors tab opens. |
