Creating a source IP subnet-based VLAN

To create a source IP subnet-based VLAN:

1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.

The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.

2. In the VLAN dialog box, click Insert.
3. Set the Type field to byIpSubnet.
4. Type the VLAN ID.
5. Type the VLAN name (optional).

If no name is entered, a default is created.

6. Select the color (optional).

Device Manager suggests a color, but you can change it. This color is used to display the different VLANs in a network.

7. Select the spanning tree group ID of the VLAN.
8. Specify the port membership by clicking the PortMembers, StaticMembers, or NotAllowedToJoin ellipsis button. For protocol types: byIpSubnet, byProtocolid, and bySrcMac use the PortMember ellipsis button.

The appropriate dialog box opens.

9. In the VlanPortMembers dialog box,click on each port button until the color representing the desired membership color is visable, then click OK.
• Potential members--dynamic (yellow). Potential members are treated as always members.
• Always members--static (green)
• Never members--not allowed to join (red)
10. Enter the source IP subnet address and IP subnet mask.
11. Specify the AgingTime (the timeout period in seconds for aging out the dynamic member ports of the VLAN) or use the default of 600 seconds.
12. Select QosLevel (optional).
13. Type the DsField (optional).
14. In the VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box, click Insert.



Note: In a source IP subnet-based VLAN, a potential member becomes an active member of the VLAN when a frame is received from the specified source IP address.



15. On the Basic tab of the VLAN dialog box, highlight the newly created VLAN and select IP > Insert to bring up the Insert IP Address dialog box.
16. Type an IP address and NetMask for routing.
17. Click Insert.
