Creating IP static routes

To improve the static route management in previous releases, the IP Static Routing Table Manager feature was added to this release, allowing users to change static routes directly. The Static Route table is separate from the System Routing Table, which the router uses to make forwarding decisions. Although the tables are separate, entries in the Static Routing Table Manager will automatically be reflected in the System Routing Table if the next hop address in the static route is reachable and the static route is enabled.

Static routes provide a way to create routes to destination IP address prefixes manually.

To create a static IP route:

1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose IP Routing > IP > Static Routes.

The IP dialog box opens with the Static Routes tab displayed.

2. Click Insert.

The IP, Insert Static Routes dialog box opens.

The table below describes the items in the IP, Insert Static Route dialog box and the Static Routes tab.

3. In the Dest box, type the IP address.
4. In the Mask box, type the mask.
5. In the NextHop box, type the IP address of the router through which the specified route is accessible.
6. In the Metric box, type the HopOrMetric value.
7. In the Preference box, select the route preference.
8. Select the enable option.
9. Click Insert.

The route appears in the routing table.
