Creating a source MAC-based VLAN

To create a source MAC-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
  2. The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
  3. In the Basic tab, click Insert.
  4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
  5. In the Type field, select bySrcMac.
  6. The dialog box displays additional fields needed to set up source MAC-based VLANs.
  7. In the Id field, type the VLAN ID number or accept the one automatically assigned.
  8. In the Name field, type the VLAN name (optional).
  9. If no name is entered, a default is created.
  10. Type the unique VLAN ID.
  11. Type the VLAN name (optional).
  12. If no name is entered, a default is created.
  13. Select the color (optional).
  14. Device Manager suggests a color, but you can change it. This color is used to display the different VLANs in a network.
  15. Select the spanning tree group ID of the VLAN.
  16. Specify the port membership by clicking the PortMembers, StaticMembers, or NotAllowedToJoin ellipsis button. For protocol types: byIpSubnet, byProtocolid, and bySrcMac use the PortMember ellipsis button.
  17. The appropriate dialog box opens.
  18. In the VlanPortMembers dialog boxclick each port button until the color representing the desired membership color is visible; then click OK.
  19. In the Aging Time field, specify the aging time (the timeout period in seconds for aging out the dynamic member ports of the VLAN) or use the default of 600 seconds.
  20. Click the HighPriority box if you want to tag traffic from this VLAN as high priority.
  21. Click Insert.
  22. In the Basic tab, highlight the newly created VLAN.
  23. Click Mac.
  24. The MAC dialog box opens.
  25. In the MAC dialog box, click Insert.
  26. The MAC, Insert VLAN MAC dialog box opens.
  27. In the MacAddr field, type the source MAC address for the VLAN.
  28. Click Insert.
  29. Click Close.
