DiffServ port types

Ports at the edge of a DiffServ network are called access ports, and ports in the middle of the network are called core ports. In a Passport 8600-based DiffServ network, traffic is classified at the network edge, as it enters or leaves the network through access ports. As packets pass through an access port, they are marked. Then as the packets pass through the network, the core ports handle the packets based on the marking assigned by the access port.
