UDP broadcast forwarding

Some network applications, such as the NetBIOS name service, rely on a User Data Protocol (UDP) broadcast to request a service or locate a server. By default, broadcasts are not forwarded by a router. UDP broadcast forwarding is a generalized mechanism for the router to selectively forward UDP broadcasts.

The basic steps for setting up UDP broadcast forwarding are:

  1. Enter protocols into a table.
  2. Create policies (protocol/server pairs).
  3. Assemble these policies into lists or profiles.
  4. Apply the list to the appropriate interfaces.
