Enabling or disabling BootP/DHCP

DHCP may be enabled by port or by VLAN. BootP/DHCP relay must be enabled first on a port or VLAN, then enabled globally.


Note: The Port DHCP tab is not available unless the port or VLAN is routed; that is, it is assigned an IP address.

To open the DHCP tab, do one of the following:

The table below describes the DHCP tab items.


Item Description
Enable
Enables or disables BootP/DHCP on the port. The default is disable.
MaxHop
Sets the maximum number of hops before a BootP/DHCP packet is discarded (1 to 16). The default is 4.
MinSec
The "secs" field in the BootP/DHCP packet header represents the elapsed time since the client first sent the message. If the "secs" field in the packet header is greater than this value, the switch relays or forwards the packet; otherwise, the packet is dropped. The default is 0 seconds.
Mode
Sets the interface to process only BootP, only DHCP, or both types of packets. The default is both.
AlwaysBroadcast
When enabled, the server reply is sent as a broadcast back to the end station. The default is disable.
LearnARPFromBootP
Used to indicate if learn arp from bootp-dhcp is enabled.

To enable or disable DHCP for a port or multiple ports:

  1. On the device view, select a port or multiple ports.
  2. From the Device Manager window menu bar, choose Edit > Port.
  3. The Port dialog box opens with the Interface tab displayed.
  4. Click the DHCP tab.
  5. The DHCP tab opens.
  6. In the Enable text box, click to enable or disable DHCP.

To enable or disable DHCP for a VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager window menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
  2. The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
  3. In the VLAN dialog box, select a VLAN.
  4. Click IP.
  5. The IP, VLAN dialog box opens with the IP Address tab displayed.
  6. Click DHCP.
  7. The DHCP tab opens.
  8. In the Enable text box, click to enable or disable DHCP.
