Device Manager Open Window

Before you can manage a device, you must first connect to or open the device. Use the Device Manager Open window to open a device.

To open a device:

1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose Device > Open.
   
   The Device Manager Open window opens.

2. Type the DNS name or IP address of the device that you want to open.

3. Type the proper community strings.

4. Click Open.

The following table describes the items in the Device Manager Open window.

Item	Description
Device Name	Type the IP address or the DNS name of the device.
Read Community	Type the SNMP read community string for the device. The default is "public."
Write Community	Type the SNMP write community string for the device. The default is "private." Note that the read-write-all password must be specified in this field as well as in the Read Community field. The default is "secret."
