Creating a protocol-based VLAN

To create a protocol-based VLAN:

  1. From the Device Manager menu bar, choose VLAN > VLANs.
  2. The VLAN dialog box opens with the Basic tab displayed.
  3. Click Insert.
  4. The VLAN, Insert Basic dialog box opens.
  5. Change the Type field to byProtocolID.
  6. The dialog box changes to display additional fields you need to set up protocol-based VLANs.
  7. Type the unique VLAN ID in the Id field.
  8. Type the VLAN name (optional).
  9. If no name is entered, the protocol name becomes the default VLAN name.
  10. In the Type field, click byProtocolID (if not already selected).
  11. Click Insert.

    Note Note: To assign BayStack 410 switches and gigabit MDA ports to a protocol-based VLAN, tag the port and select the port and choose Edit Port > VLAN.
