Protocol tab

Use the Protocol tab to set up UDP broadcast forwarding. The Protocol table lists the UDP protocols with broadcasts that are forwarded. From the UDP Forwarding dialog box, you can access the following management tabs:

To open the dialog box:

From the main menu, choose IP Routing > UDP Forwarding.
The IP dialog box opens and the Protocol tab is displayed.


Field Description
Protocol Name
Select from the following protocol names:
  • Time Service
  • TACACS Service
  • DNS
  • TFTP
  • NetBIOS Name Service
  • NetBIOS Data Service
Port Number
Port number associated with the protocol. The range is from 1 to 65,535, and it must not be a well-known UDP port number.

The Passport switch is configured with the following well-known protocols and port numbers:

These protocols cannot be deleted. You can add to the list of protocols.

To add a protocol:

  1. Click Insert.
  2. The Insert Forwarding Protocol dialog box opens.
  3. In the PortNumber field, type a Port Number (UDP port).
  4. This number defines the port (UDP port) used by the server process as its contact port.The range is from 1 to 65,535 and cannot be one of the well-known UDP port numbers or a number previously assigned.
  5. In the Name field, type a name for the protocol.
  6. Click Insert.
  7. The protocol is added to the Protocol table.

    Note Note: Once created, a protocol name or number cannot be changed.
