Difficulty Opening a Switch in Device Manager
If a switch does not open, Device Manager displays a timeout message. Timeouts
can occur in slower networks and indicate that you need to increase your
retransmission retries and timeout interval.
However, a timeout message also is issued in either of the following
circumstances:
- The correct read and write community information is not entered. For
information about community strings, refer to
Default Access Community Strings .
The switch cannot be reached via IP. The management station cannot “talk” to the switch. Check the following possibilities:
- Is the switch connected to the network?
- Is the switch turned on?
- Does the switch have an incorrect IP address?
- Is the incorrect IP address specified in the Open Device field in Device
Manager?
- Is the network misconfigured?
