Support for AIX is only provided with **** **** Optivity NMS 9.1 **** NOTES FOR INSTALLATION: ======================= All installation commands are relative to the directory that contains the extracted (un-tarred or un-zipped) OIT package. The default locations for the OIT files are: UNIX ($OITHOME): /usr/oit Windows 95/98/NT (%OITHOME%): :\Optivity\OIT Installing on UNIX ------------------ 1. Install the NMS 9.0.1.1 patch. 2. On your workstation, login as root (su command). 3. Open a UNIX shell window, and type the following commands to prepare your user environment: source /opt/lnms/bin/opt_cshrc (for csh and tcsh) . /opt/lnms/bin/opt_kshrc (for sh or ksh) 4. Type the following command to copy the OIT package to the correct location: cp NMS_pp8600_v30_A.tar ${OITHOME}/passport 5. Change to ${OITHOME}/passport directory: cd ${OITHOME}/passport 6. Type the following command to expand the OIT package: tar -xvf NMS_pp8600_v30_A.tar 7. Type the following command to install the OIT package: ./install Installing on Windows --------------------- 1. Install the NMS 9.0.1.1 patch. 2. Login to the NT server as Administrator. 3. Open a command prompt. 4. Copy NMS_pp8600_v30_A.exe to a temporary directory. 5. Run NMS_pp8600_v30_A.exe, the self-extracting OIT setup program. 6. Type the following commands to install each OIT file. cd %OITHOME%\passport\lan\rel3x\rel303_8606 oitInstall -u NMS_pp8606_v30_A.oit cd %OITHOME%\passport\lan\rel3x\rel303_8610 oitInstall -u NMS_pp8610_v30_A.oit Installation Results -------------------- When you upgrade Optivity NMS with new device support, the files oitinstalled.cnf and oitapplied.cnf are updated with an entry for the new device. (CR 132974-1) -- Fault Summary The Fault Summary View Details window exhibits the following anomalies: o The Vendor Spec file lists duplicate OIDs. (CR 127246-1) o The Agent Host Name field displays "Unknown Host." (CR 127243-1) o The Device Label field is blank. (CR 127245-1) o Due to an Optivity NMS anomaly, Fault Summary does not consistently receive ColdStart Traps. If NetView or OpenView is used, ColdStart traps are correctly received in the enterprise management station. (CR 132318-1) o On Windows NT or Windows 2000, Optivity NMS cannot display Passport 86xx traps if discovery has been run against a Passport 86xx which has IP addresses associated with a VLAN. (CR 135681-1). In this case, the VLAN IP address is discovered rather than the router IP address. o When traps are sent to Optivity 9.1 NMS using the 'trapSendAll' command from the 8600 command line interface, only three traps are received in Fault Summary (Warm Start, Cold Start and Authorization Failure). (CR 135552-1) -- Integration with NetView & OpenView o On the Netview platform, Optivity NMS cannot display Passport 86xx traps. (IBM NetView PMR-53711-BRE). The traps are correctly recorded in NetView. (CRs 132805-1 and 132237-1) o Passport 8600 does not register with the OpenView and NetView platforms. o OvSync is not getting router information from the NetView database to automatically update router data in the Optivity InfoCenter resources folder. On NT platforms, you must run discovery from Autotopology rather than trying to use the NetView discovery information.
