		ComOS 3.8.3piafs Release Note for PortMaster 3


The new Lucent Technologies ComOS(R) 3.8.3piafs software is now
released for the PortMaster(R) 3 Integrated Access Server.
This release is provided at no charge to all Lucent customers.

This release note documents commands and features added between
ComOS 3.8.2 and ComOS 3.8.3piafs on the PortMaster 3.

Do NOT upgrade to this release if you are not using PIAFS cards.

This release note applies only to the PortMaster 3.


_______________ New Feature

ComOS 3.8.3piafs supports the Personal Handyphone System (PHS) or PHS
Internet Access Forum Standard (PIAFS). PIAFS is a form of wireless
ISDN commonly used in Japan. This release supports 32Kbps connection
speeds. This release does not support 64Kbps over PIAFS or V.42bis over
PIAFS.

You must use PIAFS modem cards (MCM-PM3-10, PortMaster 3 10-port Mobile
Communications Card) in your PortMaster 3 to accept PIAFS calls.

This release adds support for the PIAFS Port-Type (6) in RADIUS. Add
the following line to your RADIUS dictionary, then kill and restart
your radiusd server.

_______________ Upgrade Limitation

There have been reports that following certain upgrade paths while
running Microsoft Windows 95 clients running Japanese ver 950A
sometimes results in a Windows "blue screen" crash. Windows 98, 
Windows NT, and newer versions of Windows 95 have not displayed this
behavior.

If this problem occurs, report the problem to Lucent Japan.
Reformatting the PortMaster 3 flash memory, netbooting, and
reconfiguring the PortMaster 3 reportedly fixes the problem.


_______________ Upgrade Instructions

You can upgrade your PortMaster 3 using PMVision 1.3, pmupgrade 4.0
from PMTools, or the older programs pminstall 3.5.3, PMconsole 3.5.3,
or PMconsole for Windows 3.5.1.4, or later releases. You can also
upgrade using TFTP with the "tftp get comos" command from the
PortMaster command line interface.

*** CAUTION!  If the upgrade fails, do NOT reboot!  Contact 
*** Lucent Remote Access Technical Support without rebooting. 	    

The upgrade process on the PortMaster 3 erases the configuration area
from nonvolatile memory and saves the current configuration into
nonvolatile memory. Never interrupt the upgrade process, or loss of
configuration information can result. This upgrade does not otherwise
affect your stored configuration in the PortMaster 3.
